On May 21, 2026, the Dushu Forum · Frontier Forum on Medical-Engineering Integration was held at the Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research, USTC. Invited by Prof. Ronald X. Xu and Prof. Mingzhai Sun, Prof. Cynthia Roberts from The Ohio State University delivered a lecture titled “Why are Biomechanics Important in Ophthalmology?”
Prof. Roberts discussed the growing importance of biomechanical assessment in ophthalmology, with a focus on corneal screening before laser vision correction. She introduced current air-puff-based technologies for evaluating corneal response and shared clinical perspectives on preventing iatrogenic ectasia after refractive surgery.

The lecture brought together faculty and students from the Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research and provided an opportunity for discussion at the interface of biomedical engineering and clinical ophthalmology.
